75 crore genetically modified mosquitoes to be released in US' Florida

US authorities have approved the release of 75 crore genetically modified mosquitoes across the Florida Keys over the next two years. This is part of a project designed to test if a genetically modified mosquito is a viable alternative to spraying insecticides to control the Aedes aegypti, mosquitoes that carry diseases such as dengue, Zika virus, chikungunya and yellow fever.
