9 of 10 African teams reach FIFA World Cup 2026 knockouts

Nine of the 10 African teams at FIFA World Cup 2026 have reached the knockout stage, setting a continental record. Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire, Cape Verde, Senegal, Ghana, Congo DR and Algeria progressed, while Tunisia were eliminated. Earlier, only six African nations had ever reached the knockouts, with the same-year record standing at two in 2014 and 2022.
