9 suffocate to death in New Year stampede at Ugandan shopping mall

At least nine people suffocated to death in a stampede at a mall near Uganda's capital, Kampala, shortly after the country welcomed 2023, police said. The incident occurred as crowds rushing to see a New Year's firework display got stuck in a narrow corridor in the Freedom City Mall. A 10-year-old boy was also among the victims of the tragedy.
