A film should end broken, to break my heart: Imtiaz Ali

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali said most of his films deliberately avoid happy endings. On the podcast, he explained that a story which opens with heartbreak must end in heartbreak to stay true. He revealed Love Aaj Kal originally ended with the couple separating, but he reunited them because a film starting from a breakup needed a makeup.
