A rat can actually feel another rat's pain: Vidita Vaidya

Rats experience the suffering of other rats, neuroscientist Vidita Vaidya said. On the podcast, she described "witness stress": even unrelated rodents register distress when they watch another in pain. Rats also show empathy and altruism, she said, challenging the assumption that only higher animals truly feel for one another.
