In the late 18th century or early 19th century India, interracial relationships were unheard of. Colonel James Achilles Kirkpatrick was British Resident at Indian court of Hyderabad. It was in 1798, that Kirkpatrick saw Kahir and fell in love. She was a noblewoman from Hyderabad. They kept their love secret, but when their relationship was discovered, a scandal broke out.
