Abdul El-Sayed’s joke on preferring ‘Shawarma law, not Sharia law’ goes viral online

After becoming the first Muslim elected to US Senate, Abdul El-Sayed’s joke about preferring “shawarma law” over “Sharia law” has gone viral. Responding to opponents who accused him of supporting Sharia law, El-Sayed quipped he favoured “shawarma law”. "If you get a shawarma and it's got lettuce in it, it's not shawarma, it's a sandwich...Someone lied to you,” he joked.
