Acting US Defence Secretary makes unannounced visit to Afghanistan

Acting US Defence Secretary Patrick Shanahan made an unannounced visit to Afghanistan on Monday to meet US commanders and Afghan leaders amid a push for peace with the Taliban. He said it was important the Afghan government is involved in the peace talks. Shanahan added he has not received any direction to reduce the nearly 14,000 US troops in Afghanistan.
