Afghanistan is facing 'tsunami of hunger' amid shortage of funds: UN

UN World Food Program leader in Afghanistan, Mary-Ellen McGroarty, has said that Afghanistan is facing a "tsunami of hunger" because of a shortage of funds. She urged the international community to avoid disaster by making sure that billions in aid keep reaching Afghanistan. An estimated 22.8 million Afghans, over half the country's population, face acute food shortages, according to WFP.
