African rice genetics may help grow climate-resilient crops
Researchers identified a genetic mechanism between Asian and African rice species, reports stated. African rice survives extreme drought, heat, pests, but breeding efforts faced internal genetic conflicts. The discovery enables scientists to better utilise over 4000 distinct African rice samples stored at Africa Rice Centre to develop climate-resilient, high-yielding crop varieties, reports added.
