AI data centres' water usage could sustain 1.3 billion people by 2030: UN

UN report on AI & its 'environmental cost' states that AI data centres would use 945 TWh of electricity by 2030. Its associated water footprint equals the basic annual domestic water needs of 1.3 billion people in Sub-Saharan Africa in the same time period. The projected annual AI-related e-waste by 2030 would be equivalent to discarding nearly 250 Eiffel Towers.
