AI data centres create 'heat islands', warm nearby land by up to 9°C: Study

Researchers from Cambridge University and other institutions have warned that data centres built to power AI are creating "heat islands", warming the land around them by up to 9°C. More than 340 million people could be affected by this temperature increase, their study said. It added that temperature increases affected areas up to 10 km away from data centres.
