Tewolde Gebremariam, who has been appointed as the new CEO of Air India, was shortlisted to lead Pakistan's largest airline PIA after its privatisation, Bloomberg reported in July. However, his appointment wasn't finalised as mandatory government security clearances were still pending. It remains unclear how far the discussions progressed or why the reported appointment did not materialise.
