Amid high power tariffs, solar energy becomes Pakistan's largest electricity source

Amid rising electricity prices and frequent blackouts, people in Pakistan are switching to solar power, making it the country’s largest source of electricity during peak demand. Pakistan added 27 GW of distributed solar capacity between 2023-2025. Rooftop solar supplies nearly 28% of electricity, up from 10% two years ago. Pakistan is one of the top importers of Chinese solar panels.
