An asteroid is named after an Intel chip

American chipmaker Intel, which was founded 50 years ago in California on July 18, has an asteroid named after its 8080 microprocessor. In 1987, France's CERGA Observatory named a Caussols main-belt asteroid "8080 Intel" in honour of the 1974 invention, which was the first 8-bit processor and soon became industry standard. Interestingly, Intel's Santa Clara phone number ends with 8080.
