Ancient Alvar idols unearthed during Hampi excavation

Ancient Alvar idols and stone pedestals have been discovered during ongoing excavations near the Hazara Rama Temple in Hampi, Karnataka. Archaeologists believe the findings date back to the Vijayanagara period and reflect the region’s strong Vaishnavite influence. Experts say the damaged idols also reveal signs of destruction following the fall of the Vijayanagara Empire.
