Ancient bakery ‘prison’ unearthed in Pompeii

Archaeologists have discovered a prison-like bakery in the ruins of Pompeii. Enslaved individuals were exploited to grind grains and bake bread in a confined space with iron-barred windows and no external exit. Indentations on the floor suggest animals were also forced to walk around blindfolded for hours. The findings shed light on harsh conditions enslaved people faced in ancient times.
