Egypt's oldest pyramid, Pyramid of Djoser, built around 2680 BCE, utilised a hydraulic elevator system, a PloS ONE study stated. Researchers propose that water was used to raise and lower floats carrying stones. Nearby structures like the Gisr el-Mudir enclosure likely served as a check dam with ground compartments acting as a water treatment facility to aid in construction.
