Ancient great ape went extinct because of climate change: Study
Climate change likely drove extinction of Gigantopithecus blacki, an ancient great ape species in China. Standing at 10 feet tall and weighing up to 650 pounds, their immense size became a disadvantage when their preferred fruits became inaccessible during dry seasons, a researcher said. The massive apes struggled to explore new food sources as they couldn't climb trees, he added.
