Ancient Martian meteorite found in Sahara shows evidence of water

A meteorite found in Mali's Sahara in 2022 formed on Mars at least 4.1 billion years ago, according to a study published in Science. Named Teghaza 001, it is among the three oldest Martian meteorites found on Earth. Researchers said its minerals show that water altered the rock about 4.1 billion years ago, offering evidence of water beneath Mars' surface.
