Ancient whales had 4 legs, walked on land, fossils show
Scientists have discovered fossils that show 43 million-year-old four-legged whales in Peru walked on land. The 13-foot-long whales reveal a crucial step before whales became fully adapted to an existence in water, scientists said. It represents the most complete quadrupedal whale skeleton outside India and Pakistan and the first known from Pacific region and the Southern Hemisphere, they added.
