Antarctica records winter temperatures 20°C warmer than normal, bare ground visible in some areas
Antarctica's Trinity Peninsula hit 15.4°C on June 6, around 20°C above normal for mid winter, in a reading logged at the Argentinian Esperanza base. Scientists called it a huge anomaly, stating that it broke the station's previous June record of 13.3°C from 1998. Instead of the usual 20-centimetre blanket of snow, bare ground was visible in some areas.
