Anthropic's Claude Code charges users extra due to hidden bug, initially refuses refund

Anthropic's AI coding tool Claude Code was found to be silently charging users extra beyond their subscription due to hidden bug triggered by string 'HERMES.md' in their git commits, a log of saved project changes. A user lost $200 a day and diagnosed the issue himself after repeated scripted responses from support. Anthropic confirmed the bug but initially denied refund.
