Antidepressants may replace opioids for pain relief: Study

A new study suggested that antidepressants and antipsychotics could help manage pain in emergency departments as an alternative to addictive opioid drugs. It found that painkillers like ibuprofen are effective, while medications used for depression, anxiety and sleep problems could also relieve certain types of pain. Chronic pain is often linked to poor sleep and depression, a researcher said.
