Are govt employees allowed to switch pension schemes after retirement?

Central Government employees who opted for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) can switch to the National Pension System (NPS) only once, before retirement. The switch must be made at least one year before superannuation or three months before voluntary retirement, as applicable. Once exercised, it is legally final and the employee loses claims to UPS benefits.
