Argentina’s players faced their supporters with their backs towards the podium as Spain lifted the FIFA World Cup 2026 trophy after winning the final 1-0. They had moved to the far side of the pitch after receiving their runners-up medals and did not applaud Spain, despite the champions forming a guard of honour for them. Broadcasters called the conduct “classless”.
