Army chief Bipin Rawat named India's 1st Chief of Defence Staff

Army chief Bipin Rawat has been named India's first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Rawat has been given the post just a day before he was to retire from service after completing a full three-year term as the Chief of Army Staff. He will also head Department of Military Affairs which will be created under Ministry of Defence.
