Artemis II capsule to endure 2,700°C before splashdown
Artemis II is set for splashdown at 5:07 am IST on April 11. The service module will separate from the capsule when the spacecraft is about 122 km above Earth. It will begin its descent at 40,000 km/h. As it re-enters the atmosphere, air in front of it gets compressed, causing temperatures outside the capsule to rise to nearly 2,700°C.
