Assam becomes third BJP-ruled state to table UCC Bill in Assembly

The Assam government on Monday tabled the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) 2026 bill in the state Assembly, becoming the third BJP-ruled state to do so. The bill seeks to ban polygamy and make the registration of live-in relationships mandatory in the state. In February 2024, Uttarakhand became the first state to pass a UCC law, it was followed by Gujarat.
