Assam conservation effort that started with 6 pygmy hogs, breeds 194

Assam's conservation efforts are bringing the once-feared extinct pygmy hogs back to the wild. The breeding programme, which started nearly 30 years ago with six pygmy hogs, has now bred and reintroduced 194 pygmy hogs. The environment ministry had added the pygmy hog to its Species Recovery Programme with the Wildlife Institute of India to strengthen its existing populations.
