Assam govt seeks shrinking of eco-sensitive zone around Kaziranga, sparks concerns

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state will approach the Centre to reduce the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around Kaziranga National Park from the default 10-km limit to 1 km. He said the existing limit was delaying civic projects, including a modern stadium in Bokakhat, and urban development in the region. This has sparked concerns among environmentalists and local activists.
