Assam TMC withdraws Nagaon bypoll candidate over freeze on party name, symbol

TMC's Assam unit said the party will not contest the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll to protest EC's decision to freeze the party's original name and symbol. "We strongly condemn...EC...and...express our deepest indignation at this insult to...people of Assam," party MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed said. The party had named educationist Abdul Salam as its candidate for the October 6 bypolls.
