Assam's first Legislative Assembly elections, originally scheduled for 1951, were held on March 27, 1952, owing to various delays. A total of 455 candidates contested for 94 seats, with the Congress party winning 76. No other party succeeded in crossing single digits, while independent candidates won 14 seats. The election saw a 47.54% voter-turnout with over 24 lakh votes cast.
