Astronomers discover a super-Earth in 'one in a million' discovery
Astronomers at the University of Canterbury found a rare 'super-Earth' towards the centre of the galaxy, in a "one in a million" discovery. The planet has a mass between that of Earth and Neptune and orbits a star about 10% the Sun's mass. The detection involved "gravitational microlensing", wherein barely perceptible objects brighten the stars they pass in front of.
