American athlete Sam Kendricks aborted a pole vault practice attempt on hearing the American national anthem and stood in attention to sing along ahead of the final of the men's pole vault event. The 23-year-old, who is a second lieutenant in the Army Reserve in the US, went on to win the bronze medal in the event.
