Auger machine at Uttarakhand tunnel breaks as blades get stuck in debris

The US-made auger machine will no longer be used in the rescue operation of 41 workers trapped in the Uttarakhand tunnel. The blades of the machine got stuck in the debris and a plasma cutter is now being airlifted from Hyderabad to cut it out. Tunneling expert Arnold Dix added, "The auger is irreparable. There won't be a new auger."
