Australia to sue Facebook, Tiktok over violating social media ban for under-16

Australia's government is preparing to sue Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube for allegedly violating the country's social media ban for teenagers under the age of 16. A report by Australia's eSafety Commissioner in July found that under-16 users were able to create new accounts due to lack of effective age checks. The ban came into force in December 2025.
