Australian scientists create flies that can eat industrial waste, human poop
Scientists from Australia's Macquarie University are biomanufacturing black soldier flies that can eat a range of organic waste, including kitchen waste, industrial byproducts and human poop. Currently, 40-70% of organic waste is disposed of in landfills, which creates methane, a greenhouse gas 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide. These flies can also be engineered to improve soil quality.
