Avg cost gap between pvt, public hospitalisation at ₹44,000 in 2025: Govt data

Average private hospitalisation cost in 2025 was ₹50,508, while the average public hospitalisation cost was ₹6,631, a difference of ₹43,877, as per NSS 2025 health survey. Meanwhile, the estimated average out-of-pocket medical expenditure per hospitalisation case (excluding childbirth) during last 365 days was about ₹34,064. Urban people preferred private healthcare (31%) over rural people (22%).
