B'desh approves Padma barrage project, says no talks with India needed
Bangladesh has approved a mega project to build a barrage on the Padma River. This move aims to "negate the negative impact" of India's upstream Farakka Barrage. Bangladesh said that the upstream structure reduces dry-season water flow, causing salinity intrusion and damaging its agriculture and ecology. Bangladesh official said the project serves country's interests and needs no talks with India.
