B'desh court cancels death penalty for ULFA chief Paresh Baruah
A Bangladesh court has commuted the death penalty of Paresh Baruah, chief of banned terror organisation United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), to life term in a 2004 arms smuggling case. The case involved smuggling of weapons, intercepted during the rule of ex-Bangladesh PM Khaleda Zia, intended for anti-India militant groups. The court also acquitted ex-minister Lutfozzaman Babar.
