B'luru startup builds magnet-free EV motor to cut China's grip on rare earths
Bengaluru-based startup Vimag Labs developed a software-defined electric motor that eliminates requirement of rare-earth magnets and minerals, reducing dependence on Chinese supply chains. As per firm, the technology uses copper coils, steel and software-controlled electromagnets instead of permanent magnets. It secured five Indian patents, raised $5 million and testing motors with top EV makers.
