Baby branded with hot iron rod to 'cure' disease in Odisha

A one-month-old baby in Odisha's Nabarangpur district was branded 40 times with a hot iron rod on the belly and head to "cure" a disease, officials said on Monday. As the child's condition worsened, he was admitted to a hospital. The doctor said the baby had a pre-existing fever. His family believed he was under an evil spell.
