Bad idea to include petroleum in GST: Ex-CEA Arvind Subramanian

Ex-Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian said bringing petroleum under the GST regime would be a bad idea. It's not politically advisable to ask states to give up more sovereignty, he stated. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently said the Centre wants to bring petrol and diesel under GST but it's up to states to come together and proceed on this.
