Bail should be a right: Ex-CJI Chandrachud on Umar Khalid case

During Jaipur Literature Festival, ex-CJI DY Chandrachud was asked a question regarding SC recently denying bail plea of Umar Khalid in 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case. “Bail should be a matter of right,” he responded. "If someone is jailed for five to seven years before trial and then is acquitted, how would you compensate for that lost time?” he added.
