Bamboo bridges, road closures help revive crab population in Taiwan

Road closures and bamboo bridges built by volunteers have helped protect Taiwan's largest terrestrial crab species during its breeding season. Female crabs migrate from land to the sea between July and September to lay eggs, making them vulnerable to vehicle strikes. The measures have helped increase annual crab numbers from over 5,000 annually to more than 10,000 last year.
