Bar bodies stopped SC from reappointing retired judges on ad hoc basis: CJI

CJI Surya Kant revealed that a bench led by ex-CJI SA Bobde had tried to revive the appointment of retired judges as ad hoc judges in high courts. He stated that the initiative could not be implemented after the bar associations began passing resolutions opposing the move. No chief justice can risk annoying the bar, the court stated.
