BBC's longwave radio service, used during WWII, shuts after nearly 100 yrs
BBC closed its longwave radio service by switching off BBC Radio 4, the UK's last remaining longwave station, after nearly a century. The move was driven by ageing infrastructure and obsolete equipment. They played a key role in transmitting messages during World War II. Historians have sought protected status for the signals' transmitter, Wychbold masts, citing their historical importance.
