The National Council for Teacher Education is going to increase the duration of the Bachelor of Education (BEd) programme from one year to two years and modify the curriculum. This means, from next academic year, one will have to study for five years to become a teacher, as the minimum eligibility to pursue BEd is a 3-year undergraduate course.
