Bengal removes 77 Muslim communities from OBC list, reduces quota to 7%

West Bengal has removed 77 Muslim communities from the OBC list under the two new bills, in line with a 2024 Calcutta High Court order. The bills also reduced the reservation quota for OBCs from 10% to 7%. Bengal Minister Gourisankar Ghosh said the communities that have been removed were added by TMC government "to grant special benefits to Muslims".
